Finding your way around

Swish has two pieces of permanent furniture: the sidebar on the left and the header across the
top. Everything else appears in the space between them.

Collapsing the sidebar

Use the collapse control to shrink the sidebar to a narrow strip of icons when you want more room for the
screen you are working on. On a tablet, the sidebar stays as a narrow strip of icons. Its arrow opens the
full menu over the page, and so does selecting a group icon such as Registers or Budgeting Tools —
the full menu opens with that group already open, so you can pick the page you want. On a phone, only the
header menu button is shown; it opens the same drawer.

The header

The header showing the greeting, dashboard switcher, notification bell, background jobs indicator, and avatar menu

Hello, your name — a greeting, on the left.

Budgeter / Investor switcher — flips between your two dashboards. The switch holds for as long as you
stay signed in; next time you sign in, Swish opens on the dashboard you chose during setup.

Notification bell — View All Notifications opens the full
Notifications screen.

Coming soon. The bell currently shows example notifications. Your real reminders are on the
Notifications screen.

Background jobs indicator — shows what Swish is doing in the background, such as syncing your bank
accounts or preparing your budget data. It is always there; it changes colour and shows a count when
there is work running. See below.

Your avatar — opens a menu with My Profile, Notifications, Help & Support, and Logout.

Background jobs

Some things take a moment — fetching new transactions, refreshing balances, rebuilding your goal
allocations. Rather than making you wait, Swish does them in the background and shows progress in the
header.

Open the indicator to see what is running. If something fails you can Retry it, or Dismiss the
message.

You do not need to watch it. Everything continues while you use the rest of Swish.

Background work does not survive closing your browser. Anything still queued is dropped when your
session ends — deliberately, since it keeps your financial data out of long-lived browser storage. The
routine work runs again by itself next time you sign in, so nothing is left half-done; a job you
started by hand may need starting again.

Moving between screens

Register items and accounts open in place. Selecting an asset opens its detail view with a back
control to return to the list.

Linked items are shortcuts. From a house, select its mortgage to jump to the Liabilities register —
with a link back to where you came from.

Browser back works. Swish keeps track of where you have been within the app, so the back button
behaves the way you would expect.

Common controls

These behave the same everywhere they appear:

Control What it does
Search box Filters what is on screen as you type
Filter dropdown Narrows a list by category, account, type, or status
⋮ (three dots) Opens actions for that row — edit, delete, view details
+ Create / + Register New Adds a new item
Clear Resets all filters on the screen

Getting help

Use the ? button on a screen, Help Centre in the sidebar, or Help & Support in your profile
menu. Screen-level help opens the most relevant guide; the other links open the help-centre homepage.

Feedback lets you report something that is not working, and attach a screenshot with anything private
blurred out. See Help and feedback.
