Reminders and notifications

Insurance renewals, mortgage fixed terms, warrant of fitness, lease expiries — the dates that cost money
when they slip past. Swish watches them for you.

Setting a reminder

Reminders live on the date fields of your register items.

  1. Open the item and edit it (or set this up when you create it).
  2. Find the date the reminder is about — Renewal Date, Fixed Term Expiry, and so on — and the
reminder toggle that goes with it.
  3. Turn the reminder on.
  4. Notification timing appears. Tick the lead times you want.

The Notification timing selector with lead time options

Every lead time starts ticked, so untick the ones you do not want. A common pattern for an insurance
renewal:

Save the item and the reminder is set.

The Notifications screen

Settings → Notifications in the sidebar shows every reminder you have set.

Due Soon Within 30 days — worth looking at
Overdue The date has passed without being dealt with

Actions on a reminder

Action Does
View Details Opens the register item it belongs to
Talk to Advisor Sends a message to your adviser (below)
Delete Removes the reminder, after confirming

The ⋮ menu appears on reminders you set yourself. Rows that come from a register's own alerts show
the View Details button but no menu.

Deleting a reminder does not touch the register item or its date — it only stops the reminder.

Finding a reminder

Search filters the list. The toggle switches between All notifications and Due notifications
so you can concentrate on what needs attention. Refresh re-checks for updates, and Previous /
Next page through when you have a lot — the count shows as Showing 1-10 of 43 Alerts · 5 unread.

Reminders you have already opened normally stay in this list in grey text. See
The notification bell for how opening one works.

Talking to an adviser

If you have an adviser, Talk To An Advisor on a reminder — or Talk to Advisor in its ⋮ menu —
opens Talk to an adviser.

The Talk to an adviser dialog with a read-only request context, an optional message and a disclosure notice

Review the Request context shown above the message. Sending shares that context, your message,
and your account name and email with the Swish adviser team.

Add Your message (optional) — up to 2,000 characters — and select Send. The reminder you
started from tells your adviser which policy or loan you mean, so you do not need to type it. Your
name and email from your Swish account go with it so they can reply; your phone number is not sent.

When it has gone, the dialog shows Request sent. If it could not send, a message says so and
everything you typed stays in the dialog, so you can try again.

The notification bell

The bell in the header shows your next few alerts at a glance, with a red count on the icon when you
have any you have not opened. Selecting a reminder opens the item it belongs to and marks that
reminder as read, so the count goes down. View All Notifications opens the full Notifications
screen.

The count on the bell is the number of reminders you have not opened yet. The Notifications screen
keeps listing reminders after you have opened them, so the number it shows at the bottom can be
higher than the count on the bell. It can also differ when you search, or when you switch it to show
alerts that are not due yet. When you have no alerts to show, the bell reads No notifications
yet
.

Reminders you have not opened have a red dot beside them and are shown in darker text; once you open
one the dot goes and the text turns grey, so you can see at a glance which are new. Mark all as
read
clears them all at once, on the bell and on the Notifications screen. It only marks them as
read — it does not delete anything, and you will still get every reminder when it is due. The bottom of the Notifications screen shows how many are still
unopened alongside the total.

Opening a reminder only marks it as read. It does not stop it — you will still get the email or
message when it is due. If the same alert reminds you again closer to the date, that new reminder
counts on the bell again.

Some alerts are worked out from your registers as you go — an upcoming maturity date or expiry, for
example — rather than being reminders Swish has scheduled for you. Opening one marks it as read in
the same way, and that is normally remembered with the rest of your register information, so it
stays read when you sign in somewhere else. If your register information cannot be saved just then,
the alert stays read on this device but may still look unread elsewhere.

Alerts in your registers

Each register also has an Important Alerts panel showing what needs attention in that register
specifically. Select an alert to jump to the item. See
About registers.

What Swish can see about your reminders

Consistent with everything else, Swish cannot read the details of what it is reminding you about.

Swish knows a reminder is due on a particular date. It does not know your policy number, your sum
insured, your provider, or your balance — those stay encrypted on your device.

The practical consequence: reminders tell you that something needs attention and take you to it. The
detail is on the item, which only you can read.

Common questions

How will I be told? Reminders appear on the Notifications screen and in your registers' Important
Alerts, and are marked Due Soon or Overdue as the date approaches.

Can I set a reminder on any date field? On the date fields Swish supports reminders for — renewals,
expiries, maturities. Not every date is one you would want chasing.

I changed the date. Does the reminder follow? Yes. Reminders are attached to the field, so they move
with it.

Can I turn one off temporarily? Turn the reminder off on the item and back on when you want it again.

Why is something Overdue when I dealt with it? Update the date on the register item — for example set
the new renewal date after renewing — and the reminder resets to the next cycle.
